RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE TRAFFIC POLICE DIRECTORATE
The Traffic Police Directorate within the General Inspectorate of
Romanian Police has among its general responsibilities the
following:
-
Monitoring the activity performed by county services of traffic
police and by the Traffic Police Brigade within the General
Directorate of Bucharest Police, in the field of traffic
supervision, guidance and control, investigation of traffic
accidents with known or unknown authors with a view to solving
them, and prevention and fight against infringement of traffic
rules;

Elaborating the national legislation regarding the traffic on
public roads, aiming at a harmonization with the specific legal
regulations of the European Union and observing the
international agreements or conventions in the field, to which
Romania partakes. The directorate also sets internal norms and
regulations which ensure the implementation of the traffic
legislation in force;

Analyzing the evolution of the operational situation in the
field, drafting programs or plans with measures to make the
activity performed by territorial units more efficient and to
reach the indicators of performance established in the documents
for the strategic planning of work, at the level of Romanian
Police;

Participates in the investigation of traffic accidents resulting
in the death of more persons or having other serious
consequences;

Carries out or, if the case may be, coordinates the application
of the measures taken by territorial units to ensure the safe
traveling on public roads of official Romanian and foreign
delegations or of special transports, to this purpose
cooperating with other competent authorities within the national
system for defense.
